A North Georgia man was arrested Thursday, a week after his pit bull attacked and killed a 61-year-old woman, according to police.

Dante Holloway was charged with involuntary manslaughter and reckless conduct, the Gilmer County Sheriff’s Office said. His bond was set at $50,000.

On Sept. 28, Kathy Sue Nichelson died after she was attacked by Holloway’s dog on Goose Island Road in Cherry Log, about 90 miles north of Atlanta, according to investigators.

“A passerby saw Ms. Nichelson on the ground and stopped to render aid,” the Gilmer Sheriff’s Office posted on its Facebook page. “The dog attacked him as well, and he escaped to his vehicle where he was able to call 911.”

Deputies killed the dog after it approached them in an aggressive manner. Nichelson, a great-grandmother who weighed 88 pounds, died from her injuries. Her funeral was held Tuesday.
