Authorities say a 15-year-old southeast Georgia boy accidentally shot and killed his 10-year-old sister with their father's gun -- one of several weapons that should have never been in the home because the dad is a convicted felon.

Joshua Jowers and his wife were at work at 1 p.m. Friday when their son fatally shot their daughter at the family's Waycross home, according to a report on ActionNewsJax.com. The unidentified boy was trying to make sure the gun wasn't loaded when it accidentally went off and struck Taylor Jowers, the website reported.

Joshua Jowers was arrested Sunday night and charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He was released on bond, according to the website.

Waycross is 239 miles southeast of Atlanta.
