Police in Polk County say an animal cruelty case now includes about 105 dogs after more were discovered Tuesday, Channel 2 Action News reported.
Officers found 35 dogs at another location after 70 were discovered behind a house in Aragon on Monday, the station reported.
A man was arrested Monday in connection with the case, according to a media report.
Devecio Ranard Rowland was charged after authorities found the malnourished and injured dogs, Polk County police Chief Kenny Dodd told northwestgeorgianews.com.
Rowland is facing 70 counts of cruelty to animals, according to the website. Each charge is a felony.
Dodd said the dogs are pit bull-based or bulldog-based breeds, and all have been fed and given water since they were found.
Officers went to the property on Cashtown Road based on a tip. The dogs were tied up and scattered throughout the remote property, police said.
“It makes you want to cry, really,” Dodd said.
Police are guarding the property until all the dogs can be placed, Dodd said.
In 2010, Rowland was arrested in a case that involved an alleged dogfighting ring, the news website reported. At that time, animal control found 33 dogs on the same property that is involved in the current case.
However, that case went nowhere because the main witness would not testify, Channel 2 reported.
