The Georgia Bureau of Investigation, which was called to Clayton County late Thursday after a deputy-involved shooting, offered few details about the incident Friday.
According to Channel 2 Action News, a man driving a library van led police on a chase that ended at a motel. When the responding deputies confronted him, the man reportedly tried to flee the scene.
In an emailed statement, GBI spokeswoman Sherry Lang said two Clayton sheriff’s deputies shot the man in his 30s about 9 p.m. Thursday at the American Inn & Suites in the 6300 block of Old Dixie Highway near Jonesboro.
The man, whose name has not been released, was taken to Atlanta Medical Center, where he was being treated Friday for his injuries, she said.
The deputies were not injured in the incident, according to Lang. Their names were not released.
“When the GBI investigation is complete,” Lang said, “it will be turned over to the Clayton County District Attorney for any action deemed appropriate.”
