David Scher was facing up to 90 days in jail on theft charges and threw it away by allegedly changing his jury slip.

Boston Patch reported that Scher, 33, changed the jury verdict slip on his larceny conviction to say "not guilty."

Scher was arraigned on perjury charges Wednesday.

His previous theft charge comes from a conviction in Boston Municipal Court when, according to an official's testimony, Scher stole a laptop from Suffolk University Law School, where he was a student.

He was sentenced to 90 days in jail.

A judge delayed his sentence, having Schur serve a two-year probation.

A press release from the Suffolk County District Attorney's office said that months later, Scher made multiple requests to see his case file, which is public record.

Prosecutors said Scher forged a copy of the verdict slip in the file to have a not guilty verdict and put that slip in the file. The original slip has never been located.

Three other complaints against Scher involved the forged verdict slip, including one case of operating a motor vehicle without insurance and leaving the scene of an accident.

Scher faces up to 20 years of jail time.

He is due in court May 4.
