A Florida man is in custody in Gwinnett County after he allegedly shot his former girlfriend outside a Wal-Mart in Snellville over the weekend.

Darrell Costallo Hale of Gainesville, Fla., is charged with aggravated assault and has no bond.

Hale’s family members called Snellville police Monday about 5 p.m. and brought him to the police station, where he surrendered without incident, police Capt. Carey Roberts said Tuesday. Roberts said Hale’s family members traveled from Florida after the shooting incident. Hale did not speak to officers when he surrendered.

Police still have not recovered the firearm used in the shooting, Roberts said.

Hale has a hearing at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in Gwinnett County Magistrate Court.

Hale shot the woman twice in the parking lot of the Scenic Highway Wal-Mart on Saturday, according to Snellville police. She was treated at a local hospital, and has been released.
