A Florida man has been formally charged with burying his dead mother’s body and stealing her pension funds and Social Security benefits.

Brian Adams, 56, is facing up to 30 years in federal prison on one count of bank fraud, up to 10 years on one count of theft of government property and two years’ in prison on four counts of aggravated identity theft.

In addition, the federal government is seeking a money judgment in the amount of $35,345 in connection with the activity.

According to the indictment, Adams buried his mother in the yard of her Green Cove Springs home to conceal the event, cause, and circumstances of her death. It's still undetermined how or when she died, but authorities said she died sometime before July 4, 2014.

The indictment says Adams stole her pension funds and Social Security benefits for nearly a year. Authorities discovered what he had done with her body in June 2015.
