Feds indict seven Atlantans in thefts from firearms dealers
Seven people from Atlanta have been indicted after federal prosecutors said they stole more than 100 guns from the premises of firearms dealers in Georgia and Alabama.
The thefts occurred from October to December 2015, according to a media release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Atlanta. Thefts were in Athens, Macon, LaGrange, Dalton, Warner Robins, Monroe, Thomson, Tallapoosa, and Heflin, Ala.
The suspects always struck at night, and entered buildings either by driving a car through the storefront, or using bolt cutters and a window punch to break in, prosecutors said. There’s evidence that some resold some of the guns.
Terry Eugene Brown, 26; Jakeisia Miller, 19; Demontra Sharod Lucear, 26; Dillon James Leborgne, 21; and Eric Jerome Moore, 22, have been arraigned before a federal magistrate. Jaquez Miller, 23, and Jameel Yusef Drinkard, 35, will be arraigned May 3.
All the defendants were indicted by a federal grand jury in March.
“Thefts from firearms dealers have become a serious issue in our district and elsewhere, and sometimes stolen firearms are used to commit other crimes,” U.S. Attorney John Horn said in the release.
Several local police agencies and the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives participated in the investigation.
