Authorities in North Dakota are working to identify a woman found killed and inside of a freezer Thursday.
"It is believed the body may have been transported from out of state prior to its discovery this morning," Pennington County sheriff's deputies said in a news release Thursday night. "The investigation now continues to confirm the identity of the woman and the circumstances surrounding her death."
Deputies found an elderly woman dead inside of a freezer at a home in Rapid City Thursday morning. They had responded to the home, at 3180 O'Brien St., after receiving a report of a possible missing person case related to an ongoing fraud investigation, deputies said.
The Pennington County Sheriff's Office and Rapid City Police Department are investigating the case.
Authorities did not share any identifying information about the woman or the circumstances surrounding her death.
"We have to go through the process so we can factually look at the situation in regard to the body," Capt. Corey Brubakken, of the Pennington County Sheriff's Office, told KEVN. "We have to have an autopsy that (is) going to be scheduled in regard to hopefully helping to identify the cause of death."
