Driver faces charges after death of motorcyclist in Gwinnett

The motorcyclist died at a hospital Sunday after he was hit Saturday night while traveling east on Braselton Highway, according to police.

A 63-year-old Hoschton man is facing a charge of homicide by vehicle after hitting a motorcyclist on a Gwinnett County road, authorities said.

The motorcyclist, identified by Gwinnett County police as 27-year-old Braetan Petraro of Powder Springs, died at a hospital Sunday after he was hit Saturday night while traveling east on Braselton Highway. He collided with a white Chevrolet Tahoe about 7:30 p.m., according to police.

The driver of the Chevy, Samuel Perry, was trying to turn left on Hamilton Creek Parkway in front of the motorcycle, investigators said Thursday in a news release.

Perry was arrested Thursday on second-degree homicide by vehicle and failure to yield charges, according to police. Both charges are misdemeanors.

He was being held in the Gwinnett County jail in lieu of $11,400 bond.
