A former Pickens County resident is in the custody of the FBI after allegedly sending threatening messages to the county’s sheriff and his wife.
Jason Green, 42, now lives in Tennessee, but he’s accused of using Facebook Messenger to send death threats to Sheriff Donnie Craig, Channel 2 Action News reported. The sheriff’s office said Friday that Craig doesn’t know Green or what could’ve prompted the alleged threats.
Green is accused of sending the messages in late February, the FBI told Channel 2. One of the messages allegedly said, “Your a worthless use for a human hope someone shoots you that way pickens county can be done with u.” (sic)
Court documents obtained by the news station show the sheriff responded by asking, “(I’m) just trying to see what your issue is about?”
Green’s alleged response threatened not only the sheriff, but mentioned his wife by name. The message said, “Die (expletive). Die. Die. I’ll get (your wife). Watch me.”
Craig declined Channel 2’s request for comment.
Green was arrested last month by deputies before being turned over to the FBI, the news station reported. It’s unclear what charges he faces in connection with the alleged threats.
The sheriff’s office said Green faced a number of charges in the past, including stalking, and was previously ordered by a court to receive mental health counseling, Channel 2 reported.
