A head-on collision in Cobb County killed a 60-year-old woman and injured four others Wednesday morning, authorities confirmed.

Around 8:10 a.m., a 2003 Honda Pilot was traveling east on Veterans Memorial Parkway near Collins Boulevard in Austell when the vehicle allegedly crossed into oncoming traffic, according to a Cobb police incident report obtained by AJC.com.

The Honda collided head-on with a 2006 Volkswagen Touareg that was traveling west, which then struck a 2006 Nissan Altima also traveling west, the report said.

The driver of the Honda, Ilona Peterson of Powder Springs, died at the scene, the report said.

Frances Baker, 39, and Bre’jhane Hoggans, 23, both of Powder Springs, were passengers in the Honda, the report said. Hoggans was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital with serious injuries, and Baker was taken to WellStar Kennestone Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Anel Sosa, 22, of Mableton, and Imelda Sosa Mendoza, 46, of Matamoros, Mexico, were in the Volkswagen and were taken to Kennestone with injuries, the report said. The extent of their injuries was not provided.

The driver of the Nissan did not require medical treatment, the report said.
