A driver has been taken into custody a day after police said he fatally hit a 23-year-old Roswell man on Ga. 400 without stopping.

Kiara Stinner, 31, of Brunswick, is facing multiple charges in connection with the incident, according to Sandy Springs police spokesman Sgt. Salvador Ortega.

Police had been looking for Stinner since Sunday morning, when authorities said he hit Orlando St. Louis II.

The incident started with a collision in the northbound lanes of Ga. 400 near exit 5, across from the MARTA entrance ramp, Ortega said. Investigators said St. Louis had been driving a 2017 Hyundai Elantra that had been hit by a black car about 12:40 a.m.

The collision left the Elantra badly damaged and disabled, Ortega said. Two good Samaritans stopped to help St. Louis and the two passengers of the wrecked car. One of the good Samaritans invited them to get into her vehicle “so that they could move away from the dangers of being in the middle of the roadway,” according to Ortega.

The two passengers of the Elantra safely got into the good Samaritans’ vehicle. While heading to the waiting car, St. Louis was hit by a 2006 Toyota Sienna minivan.

The driver of the Sienna, later identified as Stinner, lost control of the vehicle, Ortega said. Investigators said he overcorrected the minivan and hit St. Louis. A passenger in Stinner’s vehicle was injured when the man hit the good Samaritan’s vehicle, according to police.

Stinner then drove off, leaving St. Louis injured in the road, Ortega said. St. Louis was declared dead at the scene.

Stinner was booked into the Fulton County Jail on Monday on charges of vehicular homicide, serious injury by vehicle, reckless driving, driving with a suspended license and hit-and-run.

A passenger in his car was also critically injured.
