A man faces an aggravated assault charge after police say he stabbed his father in the stomach, neck and ribs during an argument at their Grayson home, according to a Gwinnett County police report.
Gregory Smallwood, 62, told 911 dispatchers his son was holding a knife and threatening to use it, according to the report. While officers were headed to the Lakewood Circle home, they were notified that Tyler Lee Smallwood had stabbed his father.
The two men were spotted in the garage when police arrived, according to the report. The elder Smallwood told police he and his son were arguing because the younger Smallwood was trying to steal watches and other belongings from him. During the argument, he said, Tyler Smallwood grabbed a knife from the kitchen and stabbed him.
One of the officers, who was walking to the backyard, saw Tyler Smallwood walk out the back door holding a knife.
Police ordered the 27-year-old to drop the weapon, but when that didn’t work an officer deployed his Taser, according to the report. The son was taken to Gwinnett Medical Center for treatment and was later released into police custody. He remains in the Gwinnett County jail without bond.
Gregory Smallwood was also taken to Gwinnett Medical Center. His condition has not been released.
