A man shot his son and wife before turning the gun on himself, police in northeast Georgia said.

Thomas Phillip Powers, 46, and his 26-year-old son, Phillip Tyler Powers, are dead, Jefferson police Chief Joseph Wirthman said.

His wife, 45-year-old Donna Marie Powers was taken to Athens Regional Hospital and is expected to survive a gunshot wound to her hands, he said.

The apparent murder-suicide happened Sunday at a home in the 100 block of Fairlane Drive in Jefferson, about 60 miles northeast of downtown Atlanta in Jackson County.

Police got to the scene just before 11:30 p.m.

No other details were released.
