A Gainesville man remained in jail Tuesday following is arrest amid allegations he repeatedly sexually abused a 4-year-old girl, the Hall County Sheriff’s Office said.

Robert Lewis Chandler, 65, faces child molestation and sexual battery charges months after he allegedly molested the child, Hall County sheriff’s spokesman Derreck Booth said.

The alleged abuse dated as far back as September.

Authorities discovered the abuse Saturday, when one of the girl’s relatives took her to Northeast Georgia Medical Center, Booth said. The Hall County Sheriff’s Office criminal investigations division responded and investigated the abuse.

Chandler was taken into custody later that day at his Memorial Drive home in Gainesville.

“During the investigation, law enforcement determined that Chandler did repeated immoral and indecent acts to the victim at a residence in the county,” Booth said in a statement.

Chandler waived his committal hearing during his first appearance Monday, officials said. He remains in the Hall County jail without bond.
