Cobb police are looking for three to six suspects in a “takeover-style” armed robbery at Cumberland Mall.

Just before noon Thursday, the suspects, all of them in masks and dark hoodies, robbed Diamond Solutions, a jewelry store inside the mall, Officer Alicia Chilton told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

They smashed a display case, quickly ran away with an undisclosed amount of jewelry and jumped into a white 2005 Mitsubishi Endeavor with Alabama tag 9083AM4. The SUV was reported stolen out of Clayton County.

“The suspect vehicle fled the scene” in an unknown direction, Chilton said. “We just know jewelry was taken. Still working on a complete inventory and price range.”

One witness told Channel 2 Action News she used training from a Marietta police active shooter seminar when she saw the group of masked men approaching the mall. She immediately ran for cover and escaped unharmed.

Another witness said the men “walked in nice and calmly,” then there “was a lot of commotion.

“When I hear, ‘Boom, boom,’ I’m out the back door.”

In 2022, Georgia Power projected its winter peak electricity demand would grow by about 400 megawatts by 2031. Since then, Georgia has experienced a boom of data centers, which require a large load of electricty to run, and Georgia Power's recent forecast shows peak demand growing by 20 times the 400-megawatt estimate from just three years ago.
