Cops: Henry County gang member faces 15 felonies after shooting 19-year-old in chest

An alleged gang member faces 15 felonies after being accused of shooting a 19-year-old in the chest in Henry County.

Lamar Deshaun Overton, born in 2000, was recently connected to the teenager’s shooting in February, according to Henry County police. The victim’s name was not released, but he survived the incident.

On Feb. 9, officers responded to Lossie Lane in unincorporated McDonough and found blood in the street and two handguns hidden in some nearby woods, police said in a news release. The victim was taken to Southern Regional Hospital by a family members, investigators later learned.

Detectives discovered that three men had traveled to the area to engage in a fistfight, which led to the shooting, the release said. After the shooting, three men were captured on video running away from the scene. Police have not made that video public.

Officers and deputies executed several search warrants as part of the investigation, which led to multiple arrests for weapons, drugs and gang-related charges. Overton was among those taken into custody, and police said he’s the teen’s shooter.

Overton faces aggravated assault, criminal street gang and felony marijuana charges, according to Henry County jail records. He remains behind bars without bond.
