College Park police are searching for the driver of this tow truck, which allegedly stole a car earlier this month.

Police are searching for a driver who used a tow truck to steal a man’s car in College Park in an effort to sell its parts online.

John Duke, the owner of a Cadillac Sedan that was stolen earlier in June, told Channel 2 Action News on Tuesday he saw his vehicle’s parts for sale on Craigslist. His custom vehicle, which had a Corvette engine, was stolen on June 6 from the Quality Inn off Sullivan Road.

Surveillance video obtained by Channel 2 shows a red tow truck preparing to haul away the sedan from the hotel’s parking lot. College Park police said the truck is unmarked and unlicensed.

While police searched for the stolen vehicle, Duke found his car’s taillights, headlights and grill for sale online.

“I ended up finding my stuff on Craigslist, and I actually bought some of the pieces,” Duke said.

Police later found Duke’s car last week, but the vehicle was missing a few crucial — and expensive to replace — parts.

“There’s no motor. No transmission,” Duke told the news station. “They ripped everything and cut everything out of the dash and just ripped it apart.”

There could be other victims, according to police. Anyone with information on this incident is asked to contact police at 404-761-3131.
