Police told Channel 2 he stole an SUV from a garage on Post Oak Tritt Road before ramming it through the gate of an upscale east Cobb neighborhood.

He broke into the home Nate Hall and John Watkins were housesitting, while they were asleep, the news station reported.

“I pop up and see this dude bust in the door, and he’s like shirtless, and he starts coming toward us,” Hall said.

The two teens told Channel 2 they chased him off the property and called police. They found Matzkow two hours later on Lower Roswell Road.

Police said they found a glass pipe and drugs inside of Matzkow’s car, and he told police he stole the SUV so he could get into the gated community, Channel 2 reported.

“I’ve been thanking God that you know he wasn’t more aggressive because when you’re on those kind of hard drugs, you never know what those will do to people,” Hall said.

Matzkow faces charges of felony theft, possession of methamphetamine, driving, hit and run, first degree burglary and loiter prowl, according to jail records. He remains in the Cobb County jail on a $50,000 bond.
