A Clayton County woman who was kidnapped this week by her husband’s mistress was killed in Alabama on Thursday, according to the police department.
Officer Charlene Watson-Fraser said 49-year-old Sandra Barnett was abducted from her Ellenwood home Wednesday. Police started searching for the mistress’ Dodge Durango, which was spotted Thursday in Carroll County, Watson-Fraser said.
The Georgia State Patrol and other authorities gave chase and the car fled into Alabama, where it stopped on Interstate 20 in Clebrune County.
“The driver stopped in the middle of the highway, pulled out a handgun and shot (Barnett) and then turned the gun on herself,” Watson-Fraser said.
Both women were killed. The name of the shooter has not been released.
Carroll and Haralson County sheriff’s deputies, Heflin, Ala., police and the Alabama State Patrol participated in the chase, the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office told Channel 2 Action News.
