Police have arrested one of two men accused of targeting the elderly in a string of thefts around metro Atlanta.
Clinton Stone, 52, was arrested Monday after being on the run more than a year, Dunwoody police said.
Herbert Lewis, the other wanted man, is still on the loose.
Lewis and Stone are accused of distracting their victims and taking their wallets and purses, police said in a news release.
“In almost every case, the suspects then use the stolen credit cards to make purchases worth hundreds of dollars,” Dunwoody police spokesman Mark Stevens said. “The victims are targeted solely because of their age and, in some cases, their health.”
Dunwoody police earlier released a video of one case that appears to show the suspects stealing from a 67-year-old disabled veteran at a gas station. One of the men distracts the victim by helping him get a drink from the cooler, while the other sneaks behind the veteran and steals his wallet.
Stone is being held at the DeKalb County Adult Detention Center on two counts of elder exploitation, two counts of felony robbery and two counts of felony transaction fraud, according to DeKalb jail records.
Atlanta police helped with his arrest. It is unclear how police found him.
Anyone with information on Lewis' whereabouts is asked to contact Detective A. Stallings at Anthony.stallings@dunwoodyga.gov or at 678-382-6921. Anonymous tips are also accepted at www.dunwoodypolice.com.
