UPDATE: Boil water advisory lifted for North Georgia town

A boil water advisory was issued Thursday after a water main break in Watkinsville, officials said.

A boil water advisory was lifted over 24 hours after a contractor accidentally hit a water main while laying cable in Watkinsville, authorities confirmed.
The busted main on Ga. 15 near Athens was repaired Thursday night, but the boil water advisory wasn’t lifted until a little after 10 p.m. Friday, according to Oconee County government’s Twitter.

The Boil Water Advisory issued on January 31, 2019, for Watkinsville and the surrounding area is no longer in effect. All water is safe for consumption.
The city said the water was turned back on in order to flush the line, but it was waiting to get the testing results back before lifting the advisory.
