A Cobb County man will serve 25 years of a life sentence in prison after pleading guilty to raping a woman he kidnapped at gunpoint, prosecutors said.

Roderick Deandre Bell abducted a woman on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in Atlanta in May 2014, then drove her to an area off Riverview Road in Mableton, district attorney spokeswoman Kim Isaza said.

Bell got the woman out of the car, raped her, then drove away, Isaza said.

The victim called police and was examined by a nurse, Isaza said. Forensic evidence matched a known sample from Bell after the evidence was run through the DNA index system.

“Roderick Bell chose to prey on those he believed were easy targets,” Assistant District Attorney Courtney Veal said.

Bell’s plea also was for aggravated assault and kidnapping, Isaza said. After the prison term, he will serve the rest of his sentence on probation.
