A Cobb County man was indicted on a felony charge last week after being accused of punching a 3-year-old girl in the face last year, according to court records.

Christopher David Pearson, 32, of Acworth, faces a first-degree child cruelty charge in connection with the incident that left the child bruised and battered, according to an arrest warrant. He was granted bond, but remains in jail 80 days after his arrest, records show.

On June 15 just before 10:15 p.m., Pearson got into an argument with the girl, hitting her in the face multiple times, according to his warrant. The incident took place in a home off George Busbee Parkway in unincorporated Kennesaw, authorities said. His relationship to the child was not provided.

The child had a bright red bruise on her upper right cheek, bruising on her right eyelid and had suffered two “visible bloodshot injuries” on her right eye, the warrant said.

About four months later, Pearson was accused of stealing a cellphone out of a vehicle parked off Big Shanty Trail and selling the phone at an ecoATM kiosk for $20, according to another warrant. Authorities charged him with a misdemeanor count of theft by taking in connection with the incident.

He was later arrested by Cobb deputies while at the Atlanta jail and was transferred to the Cobb jail. He remains behind bars despite being granted a $7,040 bond, according to online jail records.
