A Cobb County man was arrested last week for possessing child pornography on his computer, police said.

Moreland Smith Jr., 72, was charged with sexual exploitation of children when it was discovered that he had sexually explicit pictures of young boys on his computer, according to a Cobb County arrest warrant obtained by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

The photos were downloaded onto his machine sometime in October, according to court records.

On Thursday, Cobb County police spokesman Officer Michael Bowman said Smith took his computer to a tech repair shop to get help removing a virus.

“The technician found the photos and told his supervisor, who immediately called police,” Bowman said.

Smith was arrested just after 3 p.m. and booked into the Cobb County Jail. He was released on $10,000 bond roughly six hours later, according to jail records.

Smith is the former CEO of a Marietta contracting company.

He was not available for comment when called Tuesday afternoon at his place of employment.
