A young girl, wearing nothing but a diaper, was nearly hit by a car after she was found wandering along a Cobb County street, Channel 2 Action News reported.

The 4-year-old was bruised and had marks and scratches on her when Nicole Alford found her wandering on Oak Drive in Kennesaw last week, according to the news station.

“She was not cared for at all ... No shoes, no clothes. Nothing,” Alford told Channel 2. “I stopped the car immediately where I was at, opened my door and she came running to my car.”

Acting quickly, Alford took the child to her home, knocked on the door and heard nothing.

So, she called 911.

When officers arrived, they found the girl’s father, Norman Stepho, inside the home, Channel 2 reported.

Police believed Stepho was drunk and had been taking drugs, but Stepho denied those claims and said he fell asleep after taking pain medication for his mouth, according to the news station.

Stepho also told police that his friend, James Stubbs, was supposed to be watching the child but was passed out in a bathroom, Channel 2 reported.

Both men face misdemeanor reckless conduct charges, according to Cobb County Jail records. They are out on a $2,400 bond.
