One person is dead after a car wreck Wednesday afternoon, Cobb County police said.

The wreck happened on C.H. James Parkway east of Florence Road in Powder Springs, Cobb County police said in a news release.

A beige 2008 Hyndai Elantra was driving on C.H. James Parkway when it went off the right side of the road during a left curve, Cobb police Officer Sarah O’Hara said in the release.

The driver attempted to correct the car, but it resulted in the Hyundai crossing back over the road and exiting off the left side, O’Hara said. The vehicle then flipped, causing its roof to collide with a pine tree that penetrated the passenger compartment.

The passenger was pronounced dead at the scene and hasn’t been identified, police said. The driver, Evan Nyasimi, 48, of Decatur, was taken to WellStar Kennestone Hospital with serious injuries, but police said he is expected to survive.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Cobb police at 770-499-3987.
