A man suspected of sexually assaulting two teenage girls in Clayton County was captured Friday morning at a Smyrna home, authorities said.

Michael Milek Cooper was wanted since February after he allegedly raped a 14-year-old and a 16-year-old in Lovejoy, the Clayton County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

According to deputies, Cooper permanently scarred the 16-year-old by holding a hot iron to her hip, stomach and lower back.

He was taken into custody about 6 a.m. after authorities tracked him to the Cobb County home. Deputies said they were able to confirm he was inside with another woman and armed with a handgun.

“Multiple commands were given for Cooper to exit the residence, but he refused,” authorities said in the news release. “Investigators made entry into the bedroom window and found Cooper hiding under a mattress between a bed and the bedroom wall.”

He was arrested after a brief struggle with deputies and charged with aggravated battery, first-degree child cruelty, child molestation, statutory rape and aggravated sodomy, authorities said.

As of 10:30 a.m., jail records showed he had not been booked into the Clayton County jail.
