An employee of a Buckhead jewelry store won’t face charges after fatally shooting a man last week, police said Wednesday.
Police responded to a “person shot” call at Cachet Fine Jewelry on Piedmont Road on July 6. When officers arrived, they found 20-year-old Michael Robbins bleeding in the driveway.
Atlanta police spokesman Maj. Adam Lee said Robbins visited the jewelry store the previous day, pretending to be a customer, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution previously reported.

“They kind of recognized him and were suspicious of him when they saw him the second time,” Lee said of the store employees.
Robbins raised suspicion when he said he was “looking to spend $70,000” in the store, Atlanta police spokesman Officer Lukasz Sajdak said.
After the man pointed a gun at the owner and demanded, “Put all the jewelry in the bag,” the owner’s son fired three times, hitting Robbins at least once in the neck.
Passersby tried to revive him, but Robbins was pronounced dead a few hours later at Grady Memorial Hospital, according to a police report.
No customers were in the store and no other injuries were reported.
