A 10-year-old honor student was killed in a Fourth of July shooting at a northwest Atlanta apartment complex.

The child, identified by the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s office as Sincere Jordan, was shot about 1:40 p.m. Tuesday at the apartment in the 2500 block of Ethridge Drive, Atlanta police said.

Sincere lived at the complex but was at a neighbor’s apartment when he was shot.

“There were four children and no adults inside the residence at the time of the shooting,” Officer Donald Hannah said.

A neighbor reported Sincere accidentally shot himself. However, Hannah said  “it is unknown if the fatal wound to the boy was self-inflicted.”

Sincere was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he died of his injuries.

“Investigators continue to work the case in an attempt to determine what led to the shooting,” Hannah said. “No arrests have been made at this time.”

Sincere attended Peyton Forest Elementary School.

"Our deepest condolences go out to the family and the Peyton Forest Elementary School community,” Atlanta Public Schools said in a statement.
