A woman was found dead after a shooting in southwest Atlanta in a Burger King parking lot, Atlanta police confirmed.

The shooting took place around 10:30 p.m. Friday on the 2000 block of Metropolitan Parkway, Atlanta police spokeswoman Stephanie Brown told AJC.com.

Channel 2 Action News reported that police identified the woman as Lavonda Finklea, 35.

She was found dead at the scene with a gunshot wound to the body, Brown said.

Finklea seemed to have been confronted by several men in the parking lot, and after an altercation, the woman was fatally shot, Brown said.

Finklea’s car then rolled through the parking lot, striking a parked vehicle, Brown said.

It is unknown how many suspects were involved or what led to the altercation. An investigation is ongoing.

This is the 51st homicide of the year Atlanta police have investigated, and it's the ninth homicide investigation launched in past two weeks by the department.
