A 17-year-old girl was wounded in a drive-by shooting in front of her Newton County home, authorities said.

The girl was not the intended target in the shooting reported about 9 p.m. Tuesday in the 300 block of Crestfield Circle, according to Channel 2 Action News.

The victim was hit in the chest and taken to WellStar Atlanta Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries, Newton sheriff's Deputy Latavia Washington said.

In the incident, two men in a red or burnt orange Dodge Charger began shooting into a crowd outside and hit the teen.

“One of the males in the vehicle was reported to have a small Afro,” Washington said.

Investigators are working to get video in the area that may have captured the incident. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Newton County Sheriff’s Office.
