A Craigslist deal turned deadly Monday, after one person was shot outside a Carrabba’s restaurant near Cumberland Mall in Cobb County, Smyrna police said.

“Preliminary information suggests this was a Craigslist transaction that ended up going wrong,” Smyrna police Sgt. Louis Defense told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Police do not know if a relationship existed between the victim and suspect.

The shooting happened about 1:30 p.m. on the 2900 block of Cumberland Boulevard as customers were inside the restaurant.

One witness, Trevon Jones , was inside celebrating with family when he saw what he thought was a car crash. Jones told Channel 2 Action News he saw the victim lying in a ditch and two others inside a white SUV.

"They were still in shock,” Jones said. “They said they met up to get shoes and I guess they were trying to buy some offline or on Craigslist or something. (A suspect) shot (at) them and ran off with the money.”

Police are searching for the shooter, who is believed to have twists in his hair and was last seen headed south on Cumberland Boulevard in a four-door car.

The identity of the victim was not released.
