A shooting victim found in the middle of a traffic circle outside a Douglas County neighborhood has died, the sheriff’s office said.

Deputies responded to a welfare call around 2:30 a.m. Wednesday in the Anneewakee Trails Community and found a man in his 20s suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to a local hospital.

The victim’s name has not been released.

“We are working this as an active homicide investigation,” sheriff’s spokesman Sgt. Jesse Hambrick told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Deputies are still processing the crime scene. Traffic is being diverted away from the traffic circle at Anneewakee Trails, described by Hambrick as “just your average neighborhood that we have here in Douglas County.”

He said investigators are “actively working some leads right now. So we'll know more hopefully by about lunchtime.”
