Suwanee police believe a call reporting a shooting Tuesday morning at a Gwinnett County home was a hoax. Now, investigators want to find the person responsible for the call, which prompted the SWAT team to arrive.

“If we can determine who did it, yes there will be charges,” Suwanee police Lt. Robert Thompson told AJC.com.

A 911 caller reported a shooting in a home on Village Arbor Park, Thompson said.

“Someone had supposedly killed someone,” he said.

According to Thompson, the caller reported the suspected gunman was still in the house and would shoot officers if they came.

That led Suwanee police to enlist the help of the Gwinnett police SWAT team. Suwanee officers surrounded the home until Gwinnett negotiators arrived.

The supposed victim hadn’t been shot at all, Thompson said. The alleged gunman was asleep at another home, he said.

Investigators now believe it was a swatting prank — a phony report of a crime that leads to a large police presence.
