The GBI is investigating an off-duty Clayton County officer who fatally shot a man Sunday in the Forest Park area, police said.

It will be the 14th such investigation for the GBI in 18 days, according to a GBI spokesperson.

The officer was working across from El Dixie Plaza in the 5000 block of Old Dixie Highway, spokeswoman Ashanti Marbury said. The officer saw someone shooting at another person.

The officer went to investigate, and the shooter turned and pointed a gun at the officer attempting to fire, Marbury said.
The officer then shot the suspect, who died en route to a hospital.

DeKalb County police said the officers were released from the hospital overnight.
