A man was shot by a moped driver during a road-rage incident Monday afternoon near I-20 in southwest Atlanta, police said.

At about 2:45 p.m., Atlanta police responded to a person shot at Lucile Avenue and Joseph E. Lowery Boulevard, according to Investigator James White.

Police said a group of men got out of a pickup truck and assaulted the moped driver. The moped driver produced a gun and shot at the men, striking one of them.

The man who was shot was alert when he was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, White said. His condition is unknown.

As the moped driver tried to leave the scene, the group of men hit a car in their attempt to follow him, according to White. The passengers in that car were also taken to Grady and were alert.

Police are still trying to find the moped driver, police spokeswoman TaSheena Brown said. She added that investigators are working to determine if the people in the pickup truck will be charged.

No other information was released.
