A man has been arrested after a several-hours standoff outside a Barrow County home.

Joshua Sanchez Smith ran into a house at the intersection of Gladiola Drive and Carl Bethlehem Road about 1:30 p.m. after allegedly stealing a car in Gwinnett County and crashing through a subdivision sign, Channel 2 Action News reported.

Auburn police chased Smith until he crashed and ran into the house, where he at some point fell through an attic, Sheriff Judd Smith said.

Three people ran out of the house, leaving Smith alone inside.

A Barrow County SWAT team went from room to room trying to find him after throwing tear gas into the house, Channel 2 reported.

Smith was arrested about 5 p.m. The Barrow County sheriff said he had been wanted on warrants issued before the chase and standoff Monday.
