Authorities are searching for a DeKalb County inmate who escaped custody at Grady Memorial Hospital on Thursday.

Torinto Antoine Christian, 35, of Decatur, was arrested Monday on aggravated assault and kidnapping charges, the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release. However, he escaped after a medical-related transfer, prompting a manhunt.

Christian asked for medical assistance while in his cell and was taken to Grady, the release said. Investigators said he slipped out of his handcuffs at the hospital and fled.

A surveillance photo of Christian wearing a face mask was provided by the sheriff’s office.

Anyone who sees him is asked to contact the sheriff's office at 404-298-8132 or Crime Stoppers at 404-577-8477 or online at www.StopCrimeATL.com. Tips can be sent anonymously and information that leads to an arrest and indictment in this investigation can earn tipsters up to $2,000.
