A 7-year-old boy who was hit by a truck last week died from his injuries Wednesday, Newton County Coroner Tommy Davis confirmed.

Payton Mosher was hit by a 2015 Dodge Ram as it was backing out of a home on Birch Street in Porterdale, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution previously reported. Officials said Payton was running from a driveway at the time of the crash.

The driver, 39-year-old David Clemens, didn’t see the boy when he was backing up, the Georgia State Patrol said.

Payton was flown to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston and later died.

"Payton's parents, as you can imagine, are grief stricken," a loved one, Jackie Lindsey, said in a GoFundMe account created for the boy. "They also have to give special love, care and attention to Payton's two brothers."

The fund had reached nearly $4,200 of a $10,000 goal by 6:45 p.m. Thursday.

“Payton had a very giving spirit,” Lindsey said, “and he will continue to give and help others by being an organ donor.”
