Bond granted to teen accused of causing 8-car wreck that killed toddler

March 14, 2019

A 19-year-old Jonesboro man accused of causing a multivehicle wreck that killed a 2-year-old girl was granted bond Thursday morning.

Bond was set at $100,000 for Randal Delaneo Holsey Jr. during a preliminary hearing in a Clayton County courtroom, Channel 2 Action News reported. He waived his appearance.

Just weeks ago, Holsey was denied bond.

However, a judge said in court Thursday that Holsey is not a flight risk.

The teen is accused of driving 103 mph on Tara Boulevard on Jan. 17 while illegally street racing, AJC.com previously reported. Police said he sped through a red light and caused the eight-car crash.

The wreck sent three other people to local hospitals, including a 4-year-old girl, AJC.com previously reported. All three were listed as critically injured at the time.

Nevaeh Clemm, who was 2 years old, was ejected from one of the cars and later died.

Holsey was trying to prevent a car from passing his Dodge Challenger on Old Dixie Highway near Tara Boulevard, according to surveillance video Clayton County police cited in court. He faces multiple charges, including first-degree vehicular homicide, street racing and reckless driving.

Nevaeh’s family was emotional after court.

“To know you get to go home to your mom and my baby (doesn’t) come home to me, it hurts,” mother Shaumdrekia Clemm told Channel 2. “It hurts me. I’ll never get to see my baby again.”
