A 19-year-old Jonesboro man is accused of driving 103 mph while illegally street racing in January.
However, after the alleged race ended in an eight-car wreck that ejected and killed a 2-year-old girl, he won’t be going anywhere fast for a while, according to a Clayton County judge.
Randal Delaneo Holsey Jr. will remain in jail while he faces charges of first-degree vehicular homicide, street racing, speeding over 35 mph and other traffic violations, according to Clayton County Jail records.
Holsey appeared in court Thursday for the first time since 2-year-old Nevaeh Clemm died in that wreck. Judge Sonyja George denied his bond, Channel 2 Action News reported.
Holsey allegedly was trying to prevent a car from passing his Dodge Challenger on Old Dixie Highway near Tara Boulevard, according to surveillance video Clayton County police cited in court.
He’s accused of driving 103 mph in a 45-mph zone and causing the collision, Channel 2 reported.
The wreck sent three other people to local hospitals, including a 4-year-old girl, AJC.com previously reported. All three were listed as critically injured at the time.

Holsey’s defense attorney, Manny Arora, said, “Nobody is disputing he was speeding,” but he claimed Clemm wasn’t strapped into a car seat during the incident.
“There is also an allegation in looking at the police report that the person that was hit may have made an improper left turn,” Arora said in court. “And the person unfortunately that died wasn’t strapped in.”
The toddler’s family declined to comment to the news station, but they said her death came about two years after her 5-year-old brother died of cancer.
