A driver is in the hospital after police say he slammed backward into several cars at a Chevron gas station on Powers Ferry Road in Marietta on Monday.

Jon Gatsby Karr, 38, is facing DUI and hit-and-run charges after allegedly causing the crash, Channel 2 Action News reported. He is being treated at Wellstar Kennestone Hospital.

Karr was going 60 mph in his BMW when he slammed into other cars, Channel 2 said. Karr hit an SUV, which stopped his car from barreling into a cage of propane tanks.

Store owner Hanif Chataiwala said it could have been much worse.

“If he had hit the cage propane, one of those (could have) blown up,” he told the TV station. “Luckily there was a car parked … otherwise he would’ve been parked in the store.”

Chataiwala said some windows and the entire frame of a wall were damaged.

Karr will be taken to jail after he is released from the hospital, Channel 2 reported.
