A 54-year-old Austell man who rode his bicycle through a red light was struck and killed by a car on Humphries Hill Road, authorities said Monday.

Ronnie Turner was riding his purple Pacific mountain bicycle eastbound on Humphries Hill Road about 6:45 p.m. Sunday when he tried to cross C.H. James Parkway against the traffic light, according to Cobb County police.

Witnesses told police that Turner narrow avoided getting hit by a southbound vehicle on James Parkway but was struck by a gray 2010 Dodge Challenger heading north on the street.

Turner was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The Dodge’s driver, Adam Yarbough of Powder Springs, was not hurt and is not expected to be charged, police said.

The accident is being investigated by the Cobb police S.T.E.P. (Selective Traffic Enforcement Program) unit with the Austell Police Department.
