Cobb County police are seeking a motorist who they say struck and critically injured a bicyclist early Wednesday morning and then kept going.

The accident happened at 5:21 a.m. on southbound Canton Road just north of Piedmont Road in Marietta, police said.

Anthony Randolph Dixon, 49, of Marietta was riding his bike on Canton near a Krystal’s restaurant when he was struck from behind by a dark compact car, police said. The driver then allegedly continued driving southward on Canton.

Dixon was taken in critical condition to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital in Marietta.

The car is believed to have sustained damage to its front passenger-side fender, hood and possibly windshield, police said.

The Cobb police Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (S.T.E.P.) unit is investigating the accident. Anyone with information is asked to call local law enforcement at 911.
