Bald eagle found shot in Polk County

Feb 26, 2016

Someone shot a bald eagle this week in west Georgia, officials said.

Ranger First Class Daniel Gray found the dead bird Wednesday "in a field in Polk County," the Georgia Department of Natural Resources Law Enforcement Division posted on Facebook.

Eagles are protected by federal law.

“We’re collecting evidence from (the bird),” DNR Maj. Stephen Adams said Friday. “We don’t have any arrests yet.”

Anyone with information about shooting is asked to call 1-800-241-4113. Tipsters can remain anonymous.
