After escaping the Haralson County jail by climbing through a light fixture and into the ceiling, authorities were able to track down an escaped inmate to Alabama and rearrest him, the sheriff’s office said.

Gregory Keith Wyatt, 34, climbed into the ceiling before working his way into the jail’s pipe chase and escaping through the north side of the building, the Haralson County Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday afternoon in a Facebook post announcing his escape.

Deputies have not said what he was charged with.

Tuesday evening, the sheriff's office posted that investigators and Talladega County, Ala., deputies located Wyatt near Eastaboga. He was found barricaded in a house, but was taken into custody after a short standoff, the post said.

“We knew early on that he had headed to Alabama and the search was concentrated there from early this morning throughout the day,” Sheriff Eddie Mixon said in the post. “The Talladega County Sheriff’s Office was very helpful in searching and taking Wyatt into custody.”

Wyatt remains in custody in Alabama, awaiting extradition to Haralson County.
