ATM smash-and-grab foiled near downtown Atlanta

Smash-and-grab thieves weren’t able to pluck an ATM from an upscale salon near Downtown Atlanta early Friday morning, authorities said.

Around 6:40 a.m., police were alerted that a truck had crashed through the front door of Snoblife Studios Hair Salon at 101 Centennial Olympic Park in the Castleberry Hills district.

“Four … males in a red SUV broke the store’s glass door to gain entry,” Atlanta Police spokeswoman Officer Kim Jones said via email, noting the action was captured in surveillance footage. “The suspects tried to take an ATM machine, but could not remove it from the foundation.”

The cash machine was bolted to the floor.

“They eventually tried to back the SUV into the store, but were unsuccessful,” Jones said.

Nothing was stolen, but the front of the business was seriously damaged.

“I feel violated,” salon manager Erin Wales told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “We did not expect this at all.”

No arrests have been made, police said, and investigators are using the video footage to look for suspects.
