Atlanta police last week recovered more than $100,000 in silver and jewelry believed taken in a rash of recent thefts by “pillowcase burglars” in Buckhead and other metro communities.
Detectives on Friday arrested Farhana Sultan after receiving information from other jurisdictions.
During a search of Sultan’s downtown apartment, detectives found a cache of items believed stolen in Buckhead, Alpharetta, Sandy Springs, Cobb County and Alabama, Atlanta police Lieutenant R. Woody said Monday.
Woody said investigators “believe we have put a dent” in a series of burglaries linked by a common thread: The thieves broke into homes, then filled pillowcases with jewelry and silver.
“We expect there will be more arrests,” Woody said.
He said detectives in coming days will ask victims whether they can identify items that may have been taken in the burglaries, which have been going on for about three months.
Investigators are still trying to link many of the recovered items to other area burglaries, Woody said.
Sultan was booked into the Fulton County Jail on Friday, charged with six counts of theft-by-receiving stolen property and possession of methamphetamine. She was released Saturday on $35,000 bond, according to jail records.
